Topiary cats take social media by storm

Richard Saunders once saw an ornamental bush and was amazed to see that its shape was similar to his beloved pet cat at bedtime. He now replaces real-life bushes with his pet cat form, which has reached millions of people around the world.

Imagine going through a beautiful English country garden, turning a corner and looking at a giant cat, perfectly cared for, surrounded by lush green bushes beside a lake.

Taken from the minds of a "Surlistist" artist from Stapleford, Hertfordshire - and presented in high-quality fictional images - the topmost cat is taking to social media by storm.

All the photos include Toli, a Russian Blue owned by 69-year-old Mr. Saunders.

The first image he created was a photo of his beloved pet - who died in February - and it was framed as a picture he took in the hall barn in Beaconsfield, where he saw a topri in a cloud. Was shaped like.

"It reminds me of an animal falling asleep, and I thought to myself 'you can easily turn this into a cat'," Mr. Saunders recalled.

One of his later images, which depicts a cat drinking water from a lake at Penshill in Surrey, was seen on Facebook by 3.25 m people.

"I'm thrilled with how things go viral - I've never planned to make money out of the project. It's only a little fun," Mr. Saunders said.

He said that he had always "made it very clear" that the topmost cats around the nation's estates were not genuine, but that "about 25%" of people saw that they believed they actually existed.

Comments on The Topiary Cat's Facebook page say that users "wish they were really possible" or "imprisoned" by "inspired pictures".

Mr Saunders said he always breaks the news for those who think they are genuine, adding that he would "be known for my art rather than my deception".

"I try to correct people, but sometimes they don't want to know and believe they are real," he said.
